Going Global in Central Asia, Lesson 1: Certification, Barcodes, Legal Entities and Settlement

EAC/GOST, GS1 local barcode, local company entity, local currency settlement - the "four hurdles" that furniture companies must pass before entering Central Asia
September 3, 2026 by

No matter how hot the market is, the “compliance test” must be passed before implementation. Combining the policies and platform requirements of multiple countries, Qingdao furniture companies are recommended to check the following list item by item before going overseas:

Four must-pass levels

  • ① Product certification:For members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) such as Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, categories such as furniture and electronics usually require EAC certification; countries such as Uzbekistan also have their own national certification systems. The certification cycle is 3-6 months, and it is recommended to start in advance and keep samples;
  • ② Product barcode:Starting from 2026, Kazakhstan requires circulating goods to complete national commodity catalog registration and use GS1 Kazakhstan local EAN-13 barcode. China’s domestic barcode is not recognized;
  • ③ Sales entity:Selling on local e-commerce platforms such as Kaspi usually requires a local company (ТОО) or individual business owner (ИП) in Kazakhstan and a local bank account; platforms such as Ozon support cross-border entry of Chinese entities;
  • ④ Settlement and taxation:China and Kazakhstan and China and Ukraine have promoted local currency settlement (direct exchange of RMB and tenge/sum), and pay attention to changes in the VAT declaration standards for overseas platform sales (from July 2026, cross-border goods will no longer be treated as tax-free for "personal use").

Suggestions on landing routes for Qingdao enterprises
